1st Cultural Exchange Oaxaca Summer 2022

We arrived in Oaxaca City on a sunny morning, eager to explore the vibrant culture and traditions of this region. We were greeted by the members of Madre Tierra, a local dance group that specializes in Oaxacan folk dances. They welcomed us with warm smiles and colorful Signs.

We learned that Oaxaca is home to more than sixteen ethnic groups, each with their own distinctive music, dance, and clothing. Madre Tierra taught us some of the most popular and representative dances of the region, such as the dance of the feather, and the dance Flor de piña. They explained the history and meaning behind each dance, and showed us how to perform the steps and movements.

Our experience in Oaxaca was unforgettable. We learned a lot about Oaxacan culture and dances, but also about ourselves and our values. We made new friends and memories that will last a lifetime. We are grateful to Madre Tierra for their generosity and hospitality, and we hope to see them again soon.
